Sarah Bauer, Executive Director

Sarah Bauer joined the News Council in 2005, and was appointed Executive Director in 2007. She is a self-described “news junkie” and writes regularly about media ethics issues. Bauer currently serves on the board of directors for the Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), and is a member of SPJ’s national membership committee. Bauer graduated from the University of Minnesota with degrees in journalism and philosophy.

Erika Roland, Development Director

Erika Roland joined the News Council in 2007. Her professional experience is in the area of non-profit development. Her passion for free speech began in a high school government class, when her teacher proclaimed that the U.S. Constitution was the greatest document ever in the history of the world. Erika wrote for an independent newspaper in college.

Kate Myers, Program Assistant

Kate Myers joined the News Council in June 2008 after graduating from Luther College with degrees in English and political science. In college, Kate served as editor of the student newspaper and alternative literary journal. She has also interned with Twin Cities Business magazine. This fall, Kate will attend the Hamline University School of Law where she will work toward a J.D./Master of Fine Arts in creative writing.
