Thursday, May 7: Eboo Patel – The Struggle for the Soul of a Generation
Where: Westminster Presbyterian Church, Nicollet Mall and 12th Street, downtown Minneapolis.
When:Pre-forum concert 11:30 A; program 12 noon – 1:00 P; followed by a reception and small group discussion, facilitated by News Council partner, the Minnesota International Center
Cost: Free and open to the public. No advance registration necessary.
Forums are held from noon to 1:00pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Nicollet Mall and 12th Street, in downtown Minneapolis. Each forum is preceded by a concert at 11:30am. A reception in the Great Hall and a small group discussion in the Bates Room follow the forum from 1:00 to 2:00pm.
Minnesota Public Radio broadcasts the Forum on its News and Information stations. To accommodate the seating need of classes or large groups, please call the Town Hall Forum at 612.332.3421. Convenient parking is available across the street from Westminster at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and at Orchestra Hall ramp, Marquette Avenue and 11th Street.

Barbara Brown Taylor
Learning to Live with Purpose
Barbara Brown Taylor is widely recognized as one of America’s most eloquent preachers. Ordained an Episcopal priest in 1984, she holds the Harry R. Butman Chair in Religion and Philosophy at Piedmont College in Georgia and is adjunct professor of Christian spirituality at Columbia Theological Seminary. She is the author of twelve books on faith, culture, and spirituality, including Leaving Church and An Altar in the World. She lectures on preaching at Yale, Princeton, and Duke Universities and is a regular columnist for The Christian Century.

Strobe Talbott
The Quest for a Global Nation
Strobe Talbott is president of the Brookings Institution, a Washington-based public policy research group. He served in the State Department during the Clinton administration as Deputy Secretary of State. Before entering government service, he worked for 21 years at Time magazine as a reporter and as its Washington bureau chief, editor-at-large, and foreign affairs columnist. His latest book, The Great Experiment: The Story of Ancient Empires, Modern States, and the Quest for a Global Nation, explores historical efforts to forge a peaceful community of nations.

Gwen Ifill
Politics and Race in the Age of Obama
Gwen Ifill is moderator and managing editor for PBS’ Washington Week and senior correspondent for The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. During the 2008 campaign, she moderated the vice presidential debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin. Before coming to PBS, she worked for NBC News as chief congressional and political correspondent. She has reported for The New York Times, Washington Post, Baltimore Evening Sun, and Boston Herald American. She is the author of the book The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama.

Eboo Patel
Interfaith Understanding in a Time of Religious Crisis
Eboo Patel is founder and Executive Director of the Interfaith Youth Core, a Chicago-based nonprofit committed to building mutual respect and understanding among religiously diverse young people. He holds a doctorate in the sociology of religion from Oxford University. He serves on the Religious Advisory Committee of the Council on Foreign Relations, the National Committee of the Aga Khan Foundation USA, and the National Board of the YMCA. He has been chosen by Harvard’s Kennedy School Review as one of five future policy leaders to watch.
